FEATURED ARTICLE:
World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is like a mini-society. Just as in the real world, you need gold to purchase things, acquire an education or use transport, etc. One of the ways to obtain gold is by selling things.

These are some of the frequently asked questions when it comes to selling items in WoW.

How do I know where to sell my items?

You can sell your items through three channels...

The vendor is a so-called non-playing character. He's 'virtual'. In other words, when you sell something to a vendor, you'll receive a fixed price for it.

Auction House is the place where you put up more valuable items for sale. People can go there and search through the items, choose yours, and buy it - and you don't need to be online for this to happen. You will receive the payment an hour later in your mailbox.

Trade Channel is for the more experienced players. Instead of putting your item up for sale in the Auction House, you can simply announce on the trade channel that you would like to sell it. Other players can then contact you, if they wish to buy. But they will only see your message if they are watching the trade channel at that exact moment.

When do I choose between a vendor, the Auction House, and the Trade Channel?

If the items you want to sell are "grey", you sell them to a vendor. You can see the color of an item by placing your mouse over it, and then watch the color of its name in the frame that pops up.

All colors, other than grey, can be sold in the Auction House.

If you're selling something more general, like a list of everything you can do with enchanting or jewelcrafting, you can use the Trade Channel to do so.

How much should I charge for an item?

The easiest way to find out how much to charge, is by installing the add-on 'Auctioneer'. You can find it through Curse Client. Auctioneer will show you both vendor and market price.

Sometimes, though, you can sell an item for much more than the market price. If there is a scarcity of an item at that particular moment, and many players need it, it's up to you how much you would like to charge.

What if I don't sell my item?

Don't give up if you don't sell your items in the Auction House.

Now, depending on the item, you could either put it up for sale again, or you could get it disenchanted and sell the dust and shards; or milled (flowers) or prospected (ores).

If the items don't have an upfront fee in the Auction House, it's better to try to sell it again and, in that case, you shouldn't undercut the price. Sooner or later, your items will be the only ones available, and then you will easily sell them.

If your items are armor or weapons, normally it's not recommended to try to sell them again. Disenchant those items, if you can, or find somebody else to do it for you.
